Super-Host in Madrid
I often find myself walking the same streets, admiring the same landscapes, immersed in the comfortable familiarity of my usual routes. And although there is an unmistakable beauty in the ritual of the known, an inner voice constantly usurps me about the infinite paths yet to be explored, about those hidden gems that lie beyond my daily routine.
if your adventurous spirit is looking for stories that can only be found when you stray from the path, let your feet guide you through this collection of routes and places that I have prepared for you.
What to see in Madrid in one day
If you are one of those hearts eager to unveil the most guarded secrets of your city, there is a Madrid that whispers stories far from the echo of the tourist crowds. If you are looking for what to do in Madrid in one day I have prepared a route that is designed not to walk, but to discover; not to see, but to live.
This route is an invitation to immerse yourself in a day full of unique experiences, where the ordinary becomes extraordinary and the everyday reveals its hidden magic. Get ready to walk through a different Madrid, one that escapes the guidebooks and waits patiently to be explored by those who call this city home.
Start your day with breakfast at the Mercado de Antón Martín, a place where tradition collides and merges with innovation. Here, in this corner less sung about than its cousin San Miguel, life bustles among stalls offering everything from the most traditional to proposals that break the mold, in a dance of flavors that awaken the soul.
Afterwards, explore the alternative Madrid de los Austrias. Turn the corner of the Royal Palace and let yourself be carried away by small streets that preserve the whisper of history, but that escape from the postcards. Find courtyards that keep centuries-old secrets, small squares that have seen time pass and corners that tell stories ignored by the tourist guides.
For lunch, immerse yourself in the effervescence of Lavapiés, a neighborhood where the world meets at every corner. Here, the fusion of cultures translates into a gastronomic offer that takes you on a journey without leaving your chair, from taverns that reinvent the traditional to corners where the flavors of distant lands feel at home.
Redefine your stroll through Madrid Río, looking for those traces of the past that intertwine with the present in a symphony of urban art, secret gardens and corners that tell the other story of the river, far from the usual hustle and bustle.
In the afternoon, head to the CA2M (Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo) in Móstoles, an oasis of contemporary art that shakes you with its bold proposals and invites you to reflect, all in an atmosphere that breathes tranquility away from the center of Madrid.
Get your strength back in the Secret Garden of Salvador Bachiller, a magical hidden corner where time stands still, perfect for a snack among flowers and dreams, in an atmosphere that exudes charm on all four sides.
In the evening, let yourself be seduced by the Barrio de las Letras, where the words of great writers accompany you on a night walk full of magic, away from the din of the fashionable places, in an atmosphere full of history and poetry.
Close the night in a restaurant with soul, those who have managed to keep the essence of Madrid away from the tourist guides, where every dish tells a story and every bite is a tribute to the culinary tradition of the city.
And to put the finishing touch, nothing like stargazing in the Parque del Oeste, a haven of peace where the magic of the universe unfolds before your eyes, away from light pollution, in a date with the stars that reminds you of the vastness of the world we inhabit.
What to see in Madrid in 3 days
staying more days in Madrid? perfect! The city has even more hidden treasures up its sleeve, waiting to be discovered by intrepid people like you, who dare to look beyond the obvious.

Exploration of Malasaña and Conde Duque: Spend the morning getting lost in the streets of these neighborhoods, cradle of urban art, local designer stores and emerging art galleries. Don't miss the Conde Duque Cultural Center, where there is always something surprising on display.
Lunch at the Vallehermoso Market: This market brings together the best of Madrid's gastronomy in an authentic atmosphere. Opt for dishes from innovative chefs who use fresh produce from the market itself.
Afternoon of Alternative Culture at La Tabacalera: Visit this self-managed social center in Lavapiés, a vibrant space of art, workshops and exhibitions that show the most rebellious pulse of the city.
Dinner in La Latina: Enjoy a dinner in this charming neighborhood, opting for restaurants that offer everything from renovated traditional cuisine to daring gastronomic proposals.
Night Out in Jazz Bars or Concert Halls: End your day feeling the live music Madrid has to offer, from intimate jazz halls to live concerts in unique venues.
Day 3: Nature, Books and Terraces
Breakfast near the Retiro: Start the day with energy at one of the cafes near the Retiro Park, preparing for a morning of green exploration.
Stroll through Retiro Park: Enjoy a leisurely stroll through this emblematic park, discovering corners such as the Crystal Palace, the Great Pond, and the Paseo de las Estatuas.
Visit to Unique Bookstores: Spend part of the afternoon exploring some of Madrid's most unique bookstores, such as Desperate Literature, Tipos Infames, or La Central, where books and culture are experienced in a different way.
Lunch in a Secret Garden: Some restaurants and cafes in Madrid hide secret gardens where you can enjoy a quiet meal in an almost magical atmosphere. Do your research and venture out to discover them.
Sunset on a Terrace with a View: Madrid is enjoyed from the heights. Find a terrace with panoramic views to enjoy an unforgettable sunset, cocktail in hand.
Dinner in Chueca: This vibrant neighborhood offers a gastronomic variety ranging from the most traditional Spanish to the most innovative and cosmopolitan.
Night Exploration of Huertas: End your stay with a stroll through the Huertas neighborhood, enjoying the nightlife, full of history, music and an energy that only Madrid knows how to offer.
The most beautiful villages near Madrid
who said that to live epic adventures you have to cross oceans? Right next door, just a hop, skip and a jump from your door, Madrid is surrounded by a magical ring of destinations that are screaming your name. Every step out of Madrid is an entrance to a new chapter of a book you can't stop reading. And these places are not just points on the map; they are experiences, they are emotions, they are adventures waiting to be discovered.
Forget about lists and travel guides; this is a treasure map for the adventurous soul looking for fun and unparalleled getaways.
Cuenca: Where Nature's Artist Goes Wild
what a crazy place! Cuenca is not only a feast for the eyes with those knife-cut sickles; it's a living picture of stories, art and even plant sculptures in the Enchanted Forest that, hey, if you're careless they'll make a mess. Not to mention when night falls; the place becomes a festival of light and shadow that looks like something out of a dream.
Toledo: A Time Travel with Wifi
Crossing its doors, you suddenly find yourself in the golden century, where every stone and corner tells you a historical gossip.
Granja de San Ildefonso: The Gossip of Royalty
This place is like being in Sálvame Deluxe but beautiful: gardens that are pure fantasy, fountains that leave you freaking out and a palace intrigue that not even in the best soap operas.
Aranjuez: La Casa de Campo de los Reyes (The Kings' Country House)
Here every path, every flower, tells you about the life of those who wore the crown.
El Castillo de Belmonte & Alarcón: Where History is the King's House
Belmonte Castle is so imposing it will leave you speechless, and Alarcón has that touch of a medieval village with views that steal your heart. The perfect mix between history and Instagram postcard.
Ávila & El Escorial: Where Stones Speak
In Avila, every wall, every view, is a whisper of the coolest history you can throw in your face. And in El Escorial, more than a site, it's like entering a live historical Netflix, where every room and corridor tells a story of kings and artists.
Aranjuez: Where History Goes Green
Aranjuez is that green dream where royalty seems to have taken to gardening in a big way. The Royal Palace, with its playful reflection in the river, and those gardens that have no end, is like walking inside one of those paintings that are worth a fortune. Here, every step is a verse, every corner a story of royal love (and the others too, there was everything).
Sigüenza: The Town That Believed It Was a Chivalry Novel
Sigüenza is that place where upon arrival you feel like buying a sword in the souvenir store and start looking for dragons. The stone streets, the castle that dominates the view like the final boss of a video game; it is a journey into the past where the only hurry is to find out what story the next corner tells you.
Chinchón: Where Sundays Were Invented
Chinchón is that place where it seems that time took a vacation and never came back. Its main square is like the living room at home, but giant and more charming. And the castle, standing there, as if waiting for someone to take a good picture. Chinchón is a sip of that house wine that tastes like glory, a place where every day seems like Sunday.
Routes and Legends of Madrid: 6 mysterious places
The House of the Seven Chimneys: A Love That Transcends Death
In the heart of what is now Chueca, stands the House of the Seven Chimneys, testimony to a story intertwined with love, tragedy and the supernatural. Legend has it that in the 16th century, a forbidden love affair between King Philip II and a woman, known both as his mistress and as a possible bastard daughter, gave rise to this residence. After the death in battle of her husband, Captain Zapata, Elena's spirit, dressed in a white tunic and carrying a torch, began to haunt the chimneys of the building, in an eternal lament for her lost love.
Antonio Grilo's Number 3: Mystery and Death in the Heart of Malasaña
This building, located in the vibrant neighborhood of Malasaña, has been the scene of a series of tragic events: eight murders and one suicide over 19 years, creating an atmosphere charged with mystery. From the first crime in 1945, which left a lock of hair as the only clue, to the tragic story of Pilar Agustín in 1964, this place has inspired terror and curiosity in equal parts, even giving rise to horror movies.
Linares Palace: Echoes of a Greek Tragedy in Madrid
The Linares Palace, now Casa América, hides within its walls a story worthy of the darkest Greek tragedies. The Marquis of Linares discovered, too late, that his love, Raimunda, was not only his wife, but also his sister. Defying fate, they consummated their forbidden love and had a daughter, whose tragic end has left her spirit wandering the corridors of the palace, a shadow between opulence and sin.
El Espectro del Joy Eslava: Echoes of an Immortal Love and Eternal Vengeance
In the heart of Madrid, the Teatro Eslava, now known as the Joy Eslava, houses the grim legend of Luis Antón del Olmet, a gifted playwright whose life was cut short by a crime of passion in 1923. The victim of Alfonso Vidal y Planas' fatal shooting, motivated by jealousy and rumors of a clandestine love affair with Catalina, Vidal y Planas' wife, Olmet's spirit is said to remain trapped inside the theater, manifesting itself through nocturnal wailing, flashing lights and objects that move on their own.
Tirso de Molina Subway: Whispers of the Past in the Madrid Underground
Under the foundations of the Tirso de Molina subway station lie the remains of friars buried more than a century ago, whose laments, it is said, still echo in the silent nights. This place, once a convent, today is a reminder of the thin line that separates the everyday from the spectral. Think twice if you take the subway at the last minute, and listen well to the possible whisper of the dead.
Museo Reina Sofía: Beyond Art, Stories of Apparitions and Secrets
Before it became the iconic contemporary art museum, the Reina Sofia witnessed countless deaths, first as a hospital and then as an orphanage. The apparitions of three nuns in its former gardens and rumors of Picasso's ghost wandering its halls add a supernatural chapter to the already rich history of the place.
Church of San Ginés: The Headless Ghost Crying out for Justice
The church of San Ginés, one of the oldest temples in Madrid, was the scene in 1353 of a violent act that ended with the beheading of an old man by thieves. Legend has it that his headless spirit returned to point out the culprits, and that even today, his presence seeks justice within the sacred walls.

Yesterday, walking back home through the streets of Madrid after a long day at work, I decided to take a different route. By chance, I came across a small square that I had never seen before, hidden between two large avenues, like something out of a fairy tale. It had a small café that seemed to have stopped in time, with wooden tables in the open air and surrounded by flowers.
I sat down, ordered a coffee, and for a few hours, I forgot everything. This discovery made me think about how many "hidden gems" Madrid must have, waiting to be found in everyday life. I'll share with you some of them, which I'm writing down in a notebook so that they remain for posterity:
