Access instructions

Drive to Parcheggio Vesuvio and take the paid roundtrip shuttle to Piazzale di Quota 1000 or walk 1.5 km uphill. Booking the shuttle in advance during peak season is recommended

Arrive 30–45 minutes before your timed entry; late arrivals may be denied

Hike a trail and reach a steaming crater rim

Start at Piazzale di Quota 1000 and trek the Gran Cono trail. Climb the cinder cone, a 3.4 km route, to reach the steaming crater rim of Mount Vesuvius.

From the top, enjoy views of the Bay of Naples, Sorrento Peninsula, and the island of Capri to the south. On clear days, you can even see the whole city below.
